Changed Hosts

Changed Hosts

This will be a short post, partly because it’s to test that everything is still working and partly because I’ve spent too much time on this already.  For anyone that might have had issues viewing my site today I apologize, I was in the process of migrating to a new VPS host.  I left Digital Ocean and moved to Vultr mainly due to cost.  Digital Ocean has been a great service and they were reliable with a lot of added features that might have come in handy but which I don’t really see myself using.  Vultr is newer to the game but I have been impressed with them through the small offsite lab I’ve been running so I decided to migrate and save myself close to ten bucks a month.

I don’t want to bore you with the details of my hosting and other stuff.  If you encounter any weirdness on the site in the next few days please let me know, I anticipate I’ll be ironing out bugs for a while yet.  If anyone out there is looking for an affordable VPS take a minute to check out Vultr, I’m pretty happy with them so far.

Degu Jump: My First Completed Project

Degu Jump: My First Completed Project

This is something I’ve been working on for a while now.  Between lessons in Java and Python, during lunchbreaks and downtime I’ve plugged away at this little game.  All told I would say it took me a bit over twenty hours of work to hack it together.

Looking South

Looking South

I look to my neighbors down South and the trouble and tragedy they are having down there with the radical right and the radical left fighting.  Hate spilling into the streets, violence and acts of terror on both sides of the political spectrum.  I look at them then I look at my own country and my own people up here.  I want to believe that we wouldn’t fall to that level of hatred and violence but I can see cracks starting to show.  I see both sides going from reasonable debate to utter hate and I have to say that we need to get this under control before it’s too late.

On Being Independent

On Being Independent

This is similar to a post I wrote for my old (now defunct) blog, but now I’m going to take it a bit further here.

With the rise of the internet has come the rise of the gig worker, the gig economy, the indie artist and the self-employed remote worker.  The positives and negatives of these can be debated endlessly but I want to zero in on the independent artist or worker and why I think it’s important to maintain this independence as much as possible.
